14,15 & 16: Liquor Sale Banned for Three Days Ahead of NMC Elections in Nagpur
Nagpur: In view of the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) general elections, the sale of liquor will remain completely prohibited for three days—from January 14 to January 16—following directives issued by the State Election Commission.
Polling for the NMC elections is scheduled to be held on Thursday, January 15, while the counting of votes will take place on Friday, January 16. As per election norms, the prohibition on liquor sale is enforced on the day preceding polling, the polling day itself, and on the day of counting.
Accordingly, liquor sale has been banned across all areas falling under the Nagpur Municipal Corporation limits on Wednesday, January 14 (pre-poll day), Thursday, January 15 (polling day), and Friday, January 16 (vote counting day).
District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar, in an official order, directed that all licensed liquor establishments within the NMC jurisdiction must remain closed during the entire prohibition period. He further cautioned that strict legal action will be initiated against any license holder found violating the order.
The district administration has appealed to liquor vendors to strictly comply with the ban to ensure the smooth and fair conduct of the civic polls.
